About the Artist

Finding joy in the creative process...
Kathy believes she is living proof that it is never too late to find your creative spirit. Following her retirement as a teacher and school administrator, Kathy decided to pursue art training and try her hand at painting.
She began her exploration of painting with watercolor classes offered at the Osher Institute of Lifelong Learning associated with the University of Delaware. where she studied with Cynthia Kaufman and Marvin Stone. Moving on to oils, Eve Stone's classes exposed Kathy to a variety of painting styles and pushed her to attempt new subjects. She eventually began exploring acrylic paints when she was hired as an artist for Burgundy and Brushes, a private studio for painting and wine parties. She is now enjoying teaching acrylics to beginning painters at the Osher Institute and is exploring more modern, impressionist, and abstract styles. She hopes to inspire others to explore their creative spirit.
Kathy finds painting invigorating yet peaceful. She loves the bold and rich colors of oil, the soft and subtle colors and textures of watercolor, and the forgiving nature of acrylic. Her favorite subjects include the mountain scenery, flowers, and aspen trees of Colorado; the desert landscapes and cacti of New Mexico and Arizona; and pastoral landscapes and seascapes from New Jersey and Delaware. Her artwork includes more serious studies of landscapes and still life subjects as well as whimsical creations for grandchildren.
